Keeping up with all your friends can be tough. Classmates, teammates, and friends on Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram can accumulate into hundreds or even thousands. The Dunbar number estimates that the maximum number of stable social relationships that a typical person can maintain is 150. If you focus on your schoolwork for 40 hours per week and sleep 8 hours each night, about what fraction of your non-working waking hours would you spend maintaining those 150 relationships if you talked to each of them for an average of 15 minutes each week?
