This week’s Top Score Thursday features Aditya Kannan. Aditya is 15 years old, from Redmond, Washington. He is currently in 10th grade at Interlake High School. Check out his interview below!
Q: What’s a fun fact about yourself?
A: When I was in 7th grade, instead of counting sheep, I would count powers of two in my head before I went to sleep (I never got past 2^30 though!).
Q: How did you find out about Expii?
A: I attended a lecture in Seattle by Po-Shen Loh about Expii.
Q: How do you use Expii?
A: I do the weekly problem sets on Expii Solve. I find these very interesting because I get to apply my knowledge from math competitions to real life situations.
Q: What is your math experience/background?
A: I have been participating in math competitions since 6th grade when I took the AMC 8. These days, however, I enjoy problems from contests that are more difficult and have a larger time limit such as the AIME and national olympiads.
Q: What is your favorite area of math?
A: love geometry. Especially since I am a visual person, I like finding patterns in shapes and images. I specifically like synthetic geometry because of its simplicity, purity, and lack of heavy algebra to achieve intriguing results.
Q: Anything else you would like to share?
A: I started playing chess when I was 6 years old. I have met and played against several grandmasters, most notably Hikaru Nakamura, an American grandmaster who is the world #6.
